1, HI YO SILVER: An outlaw leader planning to take control of Texas after the Civil War kills Colonel Jeffries, a man empowered to levy taxes, and assumes his identity. His men then murder a troop of Rangers. Tonto finds one Ranger still alive and he becomes the Lone Ranger. A Jeffries spy thinks one of five men is the Lone Ranger and to eliminate his enemy, Jeffries has all five captured and sentenced to death.
2, THUNDERING EARTH: Jeffries' men plan to wipe out a wagon train of Texans. 3, PITFALL: Jeffries forces Blanchard to send a recommendation that he be made Governor. The Lone Ranger chases the courier but a spiked pit awaits him. 4, AGENT OF TREACHERY: Jeffries prepares another trap for the Lone Ranger. 5, STEAMING CALDRON: Catching one of Jeffries' men who trailed a wounded Jim Clark to their secret caved, there is a fight and the Lone Ranger ends up trapped in a pit with a steaming cauldron. 6, RED MAN'S COURAGE: Clark dies from his wounds. This is simply the best serial ever made and it's a crying shame that the original print has been lost (or destroyed as some claim).
It was filmed at Lone Pine, Ca., the perfect location for the perfect serial. The 1940 condensation 'Hi Yo Silver' is too short, leaving out many key elements, but for dyed in the wool fans of the original its better than nothing.
My copy of the serial is pretty ragged, with Spanish subtitles, but I understand is the only copy available. This serial is what all serials should be and seldom are.

The character was created in the Lone Ranger radio program. First aired on radio station WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan, in 1933, the radio program was carried by more than 400 American stations by the end of the decade.
The term kemosabe — there are lots of spellings, but this one’s as good as any — seems to have been the contribution of Jim Jewell, who directed “The Lone Ranger” (and another famous serial, “The Green Hornet”) until 1938.
It was radio that made the Lone Ranger’s theme song, ’s William Tell overture, a familiar tune in every child’s, and it was radio that made “Hi-yo, Silver, away!” a familiar playground exclamation. The Lone Ranger’s first movie serial appeared in 1938. In 1949 a television version of the radio show debuted on the network, and the sounds were linked to images and actors who became equally familiar. Played the Lone Ranger for the majority of the episodes, and became the embodied Tonto. Although the radio program ended in 1954 and the television show in 1957, the Lone Ranger’s adventures continued in various forms, including the movies The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) and The Lone Ranger (2013).
