Some serial numbers are located underneath the frame in front of the trigger guard. Others are on the rear of the frame, above the gun's grip. Look up the pistol's full serial number -- including all letters and numbers -- in the back section of the 'Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson' book.
First, Let me say Hello. Now.I just picked up a Smith and Wesson Model 19-3. Its my first S&W and was wondering what yall think. It looks to be in great shape and lock up is still tight. But not sure when it was made. The internet says 1967 but can I write S&W and ask for more info on it or will I have to pay them for the info. Serial is 6K52*** Here are some picks of it.

Now here she is with the ringer grip extension(that was FREE). Notice it was order with wide trigger and hammer from the factory(I was told but plan on emailing S&W and get more details this week). I knew a guy named Herb Chambers who was a 20 year LAPD cop and worked for the NRA. He had a 19 that had been his duty weapon while on the force and he still shot it almost daily. When I knew him back in the 80s, he was on his third barrel and it was still a shooter.
Needless to say, he put many a round through that old model 19. Great firearm.

I'm guessing but I believe that red front sight insert was not done at the factory. But it could have been a special order or something.
Also it may just be a trick of the eye but it sure looks like there's a lot bigger space between your top strap and cylinder than on mine. Big Chief is right on the Tyler T grip.
It could be an imitation. Those things have been around so long his patent has surely expired. But on a J frame or similar and even yours they're worth their weight in gold. Anyway, I'm glad you posted with pics. Let us know what S&W has to say. I may email them my self.
