I have an older model stihl chain saw and the model numbers have long worn off the outside of the chain saw, i was woundering if anyone knew if stihl put the model number somewhere else on the saw like on the inside of the parts somewhere, if u might know please let me know. The model number, part number, and serial number can be printed on a sticker located on the side of the base frame behind the left rear wheel. I finally found it! It is on the rope side of the engine by the muffler. It is under the handle that comes up from the rope side. I had to spray some brake cleaner on it and wipe it and it showed up. And yes it is like the other two saws in 'Dot Matrix'. I am glad to get that done, we have a theif on the mountain that has already broke into a neighbors place and stole their chainsaw, blower and weedeater. We are going out of town for a few days and when we get back I am going to hide the vehicles inside the garage and catch me a crook!
