• Download a executable file. • Open the folder containing the executable file (e.g. Don't install it. Unzip that exe file with 7ZIP by dragging and dropping it into the 7ZIP window.
Open Sources folder in 7ZIP window, extract xpm file. • Use 7ZIP to open the xpm file that you extracted in the previous step. Scroll down; select and extract the file named VirtualXPVHD. • Add the.VHD extension to that file name (e.g.
VirtualXP.VHD) by using F2 key. • Open Hyper-V, make a new VM, add that previous VHD file (see ). Then run that VM. It is advisable to use it after making a checkpoint in Hyper-V. ПŽ‰ Links:: • Windows XP in VirtualBox:: • Windows XP Mode_en-us:: • Windows XP Mode_N_en-us:.
I've downloaded Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu and I'm currently downloading WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe and WindowsXPMode_N_en-us.exe which I trust are the correct files. Should I remove the XP Compatibility Mode I created in Windows 7 before running these installers?
My new Dell has win 7 pro installed. Some of my favorite older programs will not load, so I thought about downloading an xp mode file from Microsoft, thinking my old programs might load, and run. There are two files to pick from, but nowhere at the Microsoft site could I find any info about why there are two files, or how to choose one. What I don't want is excess software, or the wrong file. One download check box allows for both files to be downloaded (???).
I didn't get any hint from the file name that would help me pick a file. I hope someone in this Dell forum might know something that Microsoft doesn't explain.
Will running win 7 in xp mode allow older programs to run? Thanks osprey, I previously read the article you sent a link to, and it does not describe download files the way you described them, windows xp mode, and windows virtual pc. The links to the downloads do read that way, but the download file names have no logical interpretation, at least not to me. Perhaps you can tell me why there are two xp mode files, windowsxpmode_en-us.exe, and windowsxpmode_n-en-us.exe., just one letter difference. If I need one, or both, there is no explanation how to pick one, or both, which is the way the check boxes are set up. The virtual pc files are set up the same.

Pick one, or both. Windows6.1-kb958559-x86-refreshpkg.msu, and windows6.1-kb958559-x64-refreshpkg.msu. Again, there is no explanation about how to pick one, or both. I did see a detail somewhere that the x86 is for 32 bit, and x64 virtual pc file may be 64 bit, which is what I am running (win 7 pro 64 bit), but I can't be certain of that. Thanks again, Art.
