I'll tread carefully. The task: 4 weeks ago I did much stills photography of the Tour of Britain cycle race, and a little video using my Legria HF G30. Some of the video seemed good enough to put onto YouTube, and joining the clips together, and changing them to YouTube friendly mp4 was done in my camcorder. Last Sunday I tried capturing video at a local cycle event, and by chance used a better quality capture on my G30. At home, I then discovered that the on-board joining and conversion wouldn't work with higher quality originals, hence my search for a video converter. I can always visit the club and show their efforts on a TV, but putting them on YouTube seemed a better idea.

You can then edit that much more easily on an older computer. These intermediate files are quite big (about twice the size of DV files), but they are only 'working' files, so don't need to be kept. For the very latest versions you'll need to register with a (free) Grass Valley account - see here: - but you can find the slightly earlier (and just a as good) versions directly on their Taiwan website without registering anywhere.
