So it was plug and play for me. Saved me time and $. I have a five year old HP desktop computer quad core with 16 gigabytes of ram and running Vista. I bought this product to program microcontrollers. This usb to serial adapter comes with a mini driver installation disk.

  

  The drivers on the disk are not compatible with Windows Vista/7. Luckily, I discovered that a driver is availible for 64 and 32 bit versions of Windows Vista/7 online. To install the driver, go to and click on PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v110.zip. I gave this item 4 stars because it works perfectly, but it was a pain to find the driver. I hope this helps.
