Washburn - have a L61R in.30/06 sn 511XXX with 24 inch blued chrome moly barrel marked 'Garcia Sporting Goods', purchased new circa 1975. Very accurate with great manufacturing quality i.e. Steel work and machining. Only problem after all these years was the original stock finish became gummy and sticky.
The Sako Finnbear built on an L61 action was introduced in 1962. Between 1962 and 1973, 90954 rifles were produced. Your rifle was probably made the first year. There was an average of 8270 made per year. Dec 10, 2010 - I have a Deluxe model.30.06 in 5 digit serial number that was made in roughly 1970-71. The rifle you are looking at will most likely have a.
Had it re-finished with no problems since then. Cessna g1000 trainer download. Over the years I've noticed the bluing on the receiver and factory scope rings has taken on a 'plum' colored hue to it. My 'Vixen HB' (L461 sn 152XXX).223 Rem, purchased at the same time, went thru the same sticky gummy stock problem as the 06 and also exhibits the 'plum' coloring. A gunsmith friend said it was caused by the steel's nickel content. Hope this has helped you some.

Wahburn - the two SAKO's I have still show excellent blueing (despite South Florida humidity) after all these years and the 'plum' coloring I mentioned should not be considered a defect. It's only noticeable when side-lighted. Curious about top being milled for a scope. Mine has tapered dove-tails on a finely checkered receiver top. When I purchased the rifle only SAKO factory scope mounts fit properly but expensive in 1975 dollars. Sorry to read you passed it over.

Having fondled and shot 20+ Sakos, I've only had one that would not shoot. It was a manufacturing defect on the model 75 Stainless Synthetic in 338 Federal. Everything else I've been able to get to shoot sub-inch groups at 100 yds. With my handloads. One of the gunsmiths I deal with says he loves to re-barrel Sakos as he never has to true the actions. Left to right.
Sako 85 medium Sako 75 medium Sako AV Sako l61R Sako S491 Sako Riihimaki They shoot. The actions in the races are slicker than owlschitt.
Triggers can be adjusted. Set Triggers on newer models that break at 9 oz.
Oh yeah, did I mention they are shooters. Drawbacks, heavy on the wood models, price new on new models.
